Rekreační angličtina

Znáte určitě tu situaci, když chcete něco říct, něco okomentovat. A jaksi je to takové zajímavější, exotičtější, stručně věc okomentovat v cizím jazyku.  Včera jsem měl takhle chuť říct „konečně!“. Pomohl jsem nejdřív německým „endlich“, hned zatím francouzským „enfin“ .  Ale jaksi mě hned nevědělo napadnout, jak to říct anglicky. Řešení „at last“ mi napadlo až po delší době. A doma s dcerou jsme našli další, podobný výraz : „finally“.

Ke každému z těchto dvou výrazů uvádím příklad použití.

První úryvek je z filmu Matrix. Jde o první setkání Nea s Morpheem:

Morpheus: AT LAST. Welcome, Neo. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morpheus.

A teď začátek druhého dílu Shreka. Cesta je dlouhá. Oslík se strašně, ale strááášně nudí. Je taky drobet netrpělivý a rozhodně to před svým okolím nezatajuje:

Donkey: Are we there yet?

Shrek: No.

Donkey: Are we there yet?

Shrek: No!

Donkey: Are we there yet?

Shrek: Yes.

Donkey: Really?

Shrek: NO!

(after Donkey annoys Shrek with his mouth)

Shrek: Ugh! Are we there yet?

Fiona: Yess!

Donkey: FINALLY!
